• Use of proper brushing technique- One of the easiest steps to do to help your teeth keep clean.when brushing your teeth, position the bristles at an angle of 45 degree near the gum line. Both the gum line and the tooth surface should be in contact with the bristles.Brush the other surfaces of tooth using back and forth,up and down motion, making sure to be done gently in order to avoid bleeding. To clean the inside surfaces of tooth and gums, place the bristles at 45 degree angle again and repeat the back -and -forth ,and up n down motion.Lastly, brush the surfaces of your tongue and the roof of your mouth to remove bacteria, which might cause bad breath.Brush twice a day to prevent acid buildup from the breakdown of food by bacteria.Thoroughly rinse your mouth with water every after your meals n snacking to minimize the amount of food sticking on your tooth which serve as substrate for the bacteria.

• Brush enough- Brush your teeth enough when all the surfaces are cleaned by brush. Spit in between if your mouth is full with lather. Brush for at least 2 mains twice/ daily.

• Pick the right brush- Use proper size of tooth brush, which can easily reach posterior surfaces of last teeth n clean it properly. Medium to small sized brushes are enough to clean teeth in most posterior part .Use soft to medium bristle brush for regular cleaning .Don’t apply pressure on bristle while brushing, that may cause damage to tooth as well as to the brush.

• Use of toothpaste- Look for ADA seal on tooth paste, this includes definite amount of ingredients required for teeth cleaning and also contains fluorides in required quantity. Pea sized tooth paste is enough to clean all teeth. Using more amount of tooth paste, doesn’t mean that it cleanses teeth properly. It’s not required when brushing technique is proper.

• Clean-your brush properly with water after every use n let it air dry. Don’t cover it; it might cause bacteria to grow on wet bristles.

• Changes- your tooth brush when the bristles are fanned out .Ideally change it every after3 months.

• Flossing- We know, it’s a chore and a lot of times forgetful after brushing if rushing out the door or heading to bed. However flossing can help you remove food particles &other detrimental substances that brushing regularly cannot. Flossing allows you to reach deep between your teeth where the tooth brush bristles cannot reach or even mouth wash cannot wash away. We recommend flossing at least twice a day.

• Use a mouthwash- Mouthwash is used along with brushing and flossing. These are helpful to maintain good oral hygiene as it contains antiseptic agents which kills bacteria in your mouth. Maintains good breath as well as help maintain strong teeth.

• Clean you’re tongue- Clean the surface of your tongue daily. By using a professional tongue cleaner you remove countless bacteria that otherwise live, particularly on the top surface of tongue. These can contribute to bad breath (halitosis) and negatively affect your dental health.

2. Drink lots of water- Water is not only important for your overall health, but it encourages saliva production which is important for healthy teeth. Water is much healthier and better for your teeth than sugary drinks &sodas. Water also washes away any food particles stuck between the teeth and saliva protects teeth from caries. If water intake is less or in dehydration, bad breath (halitosis) may be noticed. So drink plenty of water.

3. Avoid sugary foods- Try to avoid eating lots of sugary food, candies n sugary drinks. If you do eat a lot of sugar, make sure you brush your teeth well after eating. Sugar greatly increases the amount of plaque on your teeth, thus causing gum problems. And also increases acid attack by bacteria’s causing cavities (caries) in teeth.

4. Consume regular calcium and vita. D - You need plenty of calcium for your teeth n also for your bones. It is better to drink milk, fortified orange juice and to eat yogurt, broccoli, cheese, &other dairy products. You can also take calcium suppliments, necessary as per prescription. To absorb calcium in body, vita.D is required, which you get from sunlight. So calcium & vita.D is necessary for maintaining health of gums n teeth.

5 Visit dentist every after 6 months- You should visit dentist at least twice a year to have a full hygiene treatment performed. Get your teeth cleaning done every after 6 months, to maintain health of your gums n teeth .Also at these appointments, a comprehensive exam is taken with x-rays to help detect &prevent future dental treatments from occurring.

6 Limit sodas, coffee and alcohol- Although these beverages contains a high level of phosphorous, which is necessary mineral for a healthy mouth, too much phosphorous can deplete the body’s level of calcium. This causes dental hygiene problems like tooth decay n gum diseases. Beverages containing additives such as corn syrup, and food dye can make teeth appear dull and discoloured. Therefore, it is best to choose beverages like milk, which helps strengthen teeth and build stronger enamel. And water hydrates your body longer than sugary drinks.

7 Avoid tobacco- Use of tobacco may lead to many dental problems as well as causes lesions on soft tissues like leukoplakia, lichen planus n oral cancers. It also causes bad breath(halitosis).so avoid tobacco in any forms like pan, tambakho, gutakha, smoking, etc, which are injurious to health.

8 Always take healthy diet- Fibres rich fruits and vegetables are required for maintaining health of tooth n gums. Increase intake of dairy products which provides calcium.
